Everyone knows pizza is one of the most popular dishes across the globe. This staple of Italian cuisine has travelled out of Europe to pretty much every country in the world from the USA to Australia.
And of course, there are plenty of authentic pizza places that have set up shop in Adelaide. Each of these pizzerias have their own unique twists on classic recipes and customer service.
With all those options out there, it can be a nightmare deciding where to go out for dinner.
That’s why we’ve created this handy little guide to our 15 top pizza restaurants in the South Australian capital.

One Sneaky Cheetah
Location: 243 South Rd, Ridleyton, SA 5008 See Website For Further Locations
Ok. We know. We are open our trawl through the best Pizza places in Adelaide with a brand that sounds more like a zoo and a restaurant. But let us tell you. These folks really know their pizzas.
If you like hand-stretched dough, house-made Tomato Sauce and wood-fired Pizza (and why wouldn’t you?) this is the place for you.
Now we have a soft-spot for a Four Cheeses Pizza. And the one at One Sneaky Pizza starts off as you’d expect: Parmigiano, Fresh Mozzarella, Aslogo and Gorgonzola. So far, so good. However, they then suggest that you add their Diablo Chilli Honey. All I can say is – Genius!
And that’s not all. Most of the Pizzas at One Sneaky Cheetah include a suggestion that takes your humble slice to the next level.
Already taking over Adelaide, we reckon these folks may well end up with outlets across Australia.

Chicco Palms
Location: 437 Henley Beach Rd, Brooklyn Park, SA 5032 Ph: (08) 8352 5688
Light and bright, Chicco Palms might not sound like an Italian restaurant, but we can assure you that its Pizzas are the bomb.
With the menu divided into Rosso (red for Tomato) and Bianco (white for no Tomato), they cover many of the classics.
Whilst we always have room for a well-made Capricciosa, our top choice lies on the other side of the menu. The Patate is a heavenly combo of Potato, Taleggio, Fior Di Latte, Rosemary and a verdant burst of Salsa Verde. Try it and see if we’re wrong!
The team also do a Boozy Lunch from Tuesday to Sunday where they pair their Pizza & Pasta Feed Me Menu with Cocktails, Beers & Bubbles.

Marcellina
Location: 273 Hindley St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8211 7560 See Website For Further Locations
This spot represents a much more laid back approach to pizza service than the previous restaurant. Having been around since 1967, Marcellina has become a well known Adelaide eatery that the whole family can enjoy.
They have one of the largest menus on our list, with a fantastic range of Pizzas, as well as Pasta, Seafood and Risotto.

The only thing better than ordering a hot, lush pizza from a store is making one yourself! Click here for more information and prices on everything you need to hone your pizza-making skills.
Generally, we’ve quite fussy about ‘Gourmet Pizza’. However, the Lamb’a’Jeen at Marcellina is a definite exception. With Minced Lamb, Middle Eastern Seasonings, Fresh Tomato, Shallots and Lemon & Parsley, it’s an Italian/Lebanese fusion that we can get behind.
This restaurant even has a healthy range of lunch specials which makes it one of the most affordable places on the list too.
For a pizza place that covers all bases without breaking the bank, Marcellina is perfect.
Craving a good cuppa? These are our Best Coffee Shops in Adelaide
Blue Velvet Adelaide
Location: 70 Henley Beach Rd, Mile End, SA 5031 Ph: (08) 8117 4360
Taking a very different approach to a traditional pizzeria, Blue Velvet is actually more of a bakery. In fact, they describe themselves as an ‘Artisan Pizza and Pastry Lab’.
‘Sounds like a winning combination to us!
Whether you want a reliable Oven Thermometer for home baking and roasting, or a Microplane to grate Parmesan to a fine snow, we can help. Click here for a full range of Kitchen Gadget must-haves.
Not only that, but they do a version of our current pizza obsession – a Mortazza . Whatever you choose to call it, this combination of Mortadella, Mozzarella di Fiori, whole Burrata & crushed Pistachios get us every time.
As well as their fantastic array of daily handmade pizzas, there’s an even longer list of freshly made desserts to choose from.
Not to mention, with their high tea set menus, you could easily treat this place like an afternoon tea spot and enjoy some pizza along with it.
Unique and delicious, this is one of the best pizza places in Adelaide, so it’s definitely worth checking out.
If you have a sweet tooth, why not give our easy Toblerone Cheesecake a try?
Pizza Meccanica
Location: 2 Hawker St, Bowden, SA 5007 Ph: (08) 8232 0044
This eatery might only have been around since 2016, but in that time it’s made quite a name for itself and won a few awards too.
It’s an old warehouse, converted into a high quality pizza restaurant, where you can enjoy a sit down meal with friends and family.
In terms of the pizza, they keep things simple but classy. You’ll find all the traditional choices on the menu so don’t expect any surprises. However, you might be surprised by just how good their food is.
What’s MOre, they do a range of incredible Sandos, with their pizza dough forming the bread. Our choice is the Portobello, where Smoked Ham Marinated Swiss Mushrooms, Smoked Provolone, Parmigiano & Rocket form a very hearty sandwich.
Their 2018 South Australia Excellence award tells you all you need to know about the quality of Pizza Meccanica’s food. It’s undoubtedly one of the top pizza places in Adelaide.

La Trattoria Restaurant and Pizza Bar
Location: 346 King William St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8212 3327
La Trattoria is one of Adelaide’s best well known and beloved restaurants. If you’ve lived here long enough, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve already visited this pizzeria. Possibly on more and one occasion.
What sets them apart from most of the competition is the sheer size of their menu. Working your way through would be is a major feat. With this in mind, let us recommend the Pizza American – Tomato, Cheese & Salami – for the meat eaters, and the Vegetarian Calzone – Ricotta, Spinach & Parmesan accompanied by a Napoletana Sauce – for the vegetarians.
Aside from the dozens of pizza options to choose from, there are plenty of combinations of antipasti, oysters, salads, pasta dishes and more.
Even the fussiest eaters will find something they’ll enjoy on this menu so bring the whole family and enjoy the city’s favourite pizzeria.

Etica
Location: 125 Gilles St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: 0404 129 686
Walking into Etica is like accidentally taking a trip to a remote Italian village. The rustic aesthetic that surrounds you as you enjoy your meal helps you to understand the authenticity of Etica’s menu.
Despite its modest exterior and decor, the food on offer is some of the highest quality Italian cuisine available in the city. Moreover, the team at Etica.Pizza ensure that all of their ingredients are ethically sourced.
All their pizzas are handmade and cooked in a wood-fired oven, of course, and they stick to traditional Italian recipes that have been loved around the world for centuries.
They even have availability to book events and cater for groups of over 7 people.

Antica Pizzeria and Antica Pizzeria & Cucina
Location: 226 Morphett St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8212 3337 & 144 B King William Rd, Hyde Park, SA 5061 Ph: (08) 8272 6696
With two great locations to choose from in Adelaide, Antica has really made a name for itself in the pizzeria business.
Not only is their food inspired by Italian cuisine, but their service and hospitality is too. Expect to be made to feel welcome and enjoy sharing a wonderful dining experience with your friends and family. And yes, children are totally embraced here.
Did you know that there are a number of excellent pizza ovens available on the market – and they suit all levels of expertise and budget. See here for more information and prices.
They have plenty of variety in different types of pizza, with all the classic toppings combinations you already know and love. And if that isn’t enought to entice you, the Hyde Park outlet also does Bottomless Pizza on Mondays.

Amalfi Pizzeria Ristorante
Location: 29 Frome St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8223 1948
Don’t be fooled by this restaurant’s modest size, Amalfi’s will provide you with one of the most high quality pizza dining experiences available in the city.
The simple decor reflects an authentic Italian theme and the outdoor seating area allows you to feel like you’re enjoying a meal in continental Europe.
The menu isn’t as extensive as some other pizzerias we’ve looked at but this allows Amalfi’s to focus on perfecting the dishes they do make. Our favourite is the Spinaci. With Spinach, Pancetta, Black Olives, Fresh Tomato, Cheese and a liberal scattering of Cacciatore Salami, it’s a winner.
It may be one of the more expensive options on this list, but the premium prices are definitely reflected in the quality of their food.

Ballaboosta
Location: 289 Halifax St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8232 1853 See Website For Further Locations
It would be pretty tough to find another restaurant in the whole of Australia that combines authentic Mediterranean dishes with Middle Eastern cuisine but that’s what you’ll get when you come to Ballaboosta.
With a great selection of handmade pizzas, tapas and mezze options, there’s plenty of delicious multicultural cuisine on offer. And whilst we love their Breakfast option of 2 Oven-Baked Eggs with Middle Eastern Lamb Mince and more, the Pizzas are equally memorable.
If you’re the type of person who loves stepping outside their comfort zone and exploring new cultures through the medium of flavour, Ballaboosta is perfect for you.
Try it and we predict it’ll become one of your best pizza places in Adelaide.
Ah Burgers! Who doesn’t love them? These are our Best Burger Restaurants in the City of Churches

Tony Tomatoes
Location: 155-157 O’Connell St, North Adelaide, SA 5006 Ph: (08) 8239 0080
The ethos of Tony Tomatoes is all about creating a family atmosphere and sharing food and laughs with kin and friends.
They offer a unique banquet menu for groups of 4 or more to enjoy a table full of delicious dishes and a wide variety of flavours.
The amusingly named pizza options (Flying Anchovy, anyone?) make it difficult to decide on just one, so why not choose a few different options and share them amongst your group.
However, despite the funny names and the novelty of a banquet meal, the menu at Tony Tomatoes provides some very high quality options that you won’t see in many other restaurants on this list. And yes, they offer Gluten Free Pizzas as well.

Sunny’s Pizza
Location: 17 Solomon St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: 0455 522 356
Perhaps a slightly less traditional pizzeria, Sunny’s offers a more Australian take, while still providing some authentic pizza dishes.
Their menu is charmingly broken down into ‘pizza’ and ‘not pizza’ dishes. Both side of the menu are small, but lovingly prepared.
We’re big one the current #05 Pizza. Featuring Pork & Fennel Sausage, San Marzano Tomatoes, Provolone, Ricotta Salata, Onion, Oregano & Chilli, it has real bite.
This place is all about comfort food. This doesn’t mean that their pizza isn’t of a very high quality, which it is.
We just mean that it’s a more laid back, typically Australian restaurant.

Francesca’s Pizza + Sandos
Location: 728 Anzac Hwy, Glenelg, SA 5045 Ph: (08) 8004 3666 & 532D Brighton Rd, Brighton, SA 5048 Ph: (08) 8004 5074
New kid on the block Francesca’s hasn’t wasted any time in making an impression amongst Adelaide’s pizza fans. And no wonder. Both the branches specialise in tasty, blistered bases and quality toppings. In addition, there are 2 different forms on the menu. Either 12″ Napoletana Pizzas in the familiar circle shape, or 12″ Sicilian Pizzas, which are rectangular.
We’re really into the Meat Lovers Pizza on the Napoletana side of things. With Salami Casalingo, Smoked Hahndorf Bacon, Italian Sausage, Fior di Latte & Sauce, it’s a carnivores delight. In contrast, from the Sicilian delicacies, our pick is the Wiseguy’s Pie. Packed with Mushroom, Taleggio, Dry Aged Mozzarella, Pecorino, Garlic Oil and Thyme, we defy you to not eat it all.
And those Sandos? They are excellent too. Our current obsession is the Mortadell Sando – fat with Mortadella, Stracciatella, Rocket & Pistachio.

EST Pizzeria
Location: 30 East Terrace, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8359 2272
In a stark contrast to the previous pizza place, Est takes a more high class approach to food preparation and service.
They pride themselves on having some of the finest pizzas in the city and accompany them with an exquisite international wine and beer list.
This is probably one of the only pizza restaurants in Adelaide that will serve one with provolone, black truffle, prawn and rocket so it’s a high dining masterpiece in terms of pizza.
Surprisingly, the prices aren’t much higher than most of the other restaurants on this list.
Est is definitely a place you should visit at least once for a special occasion while you’re in the city.
If you’re over in Melbourne or Sydney, check out DOC Pizza and Mozzarella Bar
Pizza E Mozzarella Bar
Location: 33 Pirie St, Adelaide, SA 5000 Ph: (08) 8164 1003
The final of the best pizza places in Adelaide is also one of the top all rounders when it comes to your dining experience.
They pride themselves on having some of the best ingredients for creating simple, yet delicious pizzas. Just try their Patate Pizza Bianca if you don’t believe us.
In fact, they’re so proud of their high quality ingredients that they’ll even sell some to you so you can make pizza with them at home! In addition, they run classes for those keen to perfect their Italian cooking prowess.
This restaurant represents another great example of the core Italian values of sharing food and fun with friends.
Not strictly in Adelaide, but…
Pizzateca Also known as Pizza-teca
Location: 319 Chalk Hill Rd, McLaren Vale, SA 5171 Ph: (08) 8323 9762
OK. So this pizzeria isn’t technically in Adelaide, but rather in beautiful McLaren Vale. But given it’s proximity to the SA capital and it’s evident popularity, we thought we’d better pop it on the end of this list.
Simple, rustic and charming, best describes this welcoming venue. Whether you get to sit inside the shed itself, or given a bench out on the lawn, you’ll find the service friendly and efficient.
And what of the food? Well, although pizza isn’t the only offering, it’s the one we’re interested in. Happily, at Pizzateca, they are exemplary. As people who are regularly disappointed by the lack of promised heat from a Diablo Pizza, we’re pleased to report that the one here ($29) is genuinely fiery. Topped with Sugo, Salami, Dried Chilli Flakes, Asiago Cheese and a belting Homemade Chilli Honey, it’s the bomb.
If you prefer something a little gentler, the Bambini ($27) with Sugo, Leg Ham, Fior Di Latter & Parmiggiano Reggiano should fit the bill.
Such is the reputation of this eatery that you need to book to be guaranteed a table. So be warned!
